Our Mission

Our mission is to preserve and celebrate American Swing-era music and dance and to expose the greater community to the joys of swing through education, dance events, performances, and outreach. We aim to create and promote opportunities for spectators, listeners, dancers, and musicians to interact with this Black American art form in their day-to-day lives.

Level 1 Lindy Hop: Fundamentals

Thursdays 7pm-8pm

Dates: July 9, 16, 23, 30, Aug. 6, 13, 20, 27

Instructors: Anthony, Blake, & Jimmy

This 8-week series starts from the very beginning, focusing on partner connection and 6-count 8-count patterns that are essential for any Lindy Hopper. This is a longer 8-week course because there are some basics in here that can be fairly challenging. If you have to miss a week or two, let us know and come early the next week so we can catch you up. Let's get you out on the dance floor!

No experience or partner required!

Level 2 Tandem Charleston

Thursdays 7pm-8pm

Dates: July 9, 16, 23, 30

Instructors: Keara & Karson

All things Tandem Charleston! The focus will be entirely on getting comfortable and confident with this move, some entrances and exits, as well as some fun variations.

You must have taken both Level 1 Lindy Hop and Charleston series classes or have prior instructor approval to register for this class.

Level 2 & 3 Lindy Hop: Dancing Through the Years of Black American Music

Wednesdays 7pm-8:30pm (practice 8:30-9pm)

Dates: July 8, 15

Instructors: Blake & TBA

This extended 90 minute class will be a musical journey that will take you from the late 1800's to modern day. We previously taught a singular class that explored this subject before and were asked by many to do a longer series with this material to provide even more information. We're more than excited to oblige this request! We'll take the Lindy Hop and solo movements you may already know and work on adapting the feel and rhythm of them to different types of music along the continuum of Black American music and dance. Genres include Ragtime, New Orleans, Swing, Bebop, Hard Bop, Rhythm and Blues, Rock'n'Roll, Soul, Hip Hop, and more. We'll also spend some time watching videos, speaking about the history and context, and having discussions to better understand where the dance and music comes from. There will also be a 30 minute practice session after class from 8: 30PM to 9PM. Note that for those currently in level 2, the material will move faster and be more challenging.

Level 2/3 Balboa

Wednesdays 7pm-8pm (practice 9-9:30pm)

Dates: July 22, 29, Aug. 5, 12, 19

Instructors: Irina & Anthony

In this combined level class, we will be deepening our understanding of the foundations of Balboa, learning some classic moves, and working on the flow between sequences. This class will have a focus on building vocabulary and comfortability in Pure Balboa and Bal-Swing.

You must have either taken both Level 1A and 1B Balboa series classes to register or have decent proficiency with pure-bal basics, come arounds, toss outs, out and ins, lollies, and promenades.

Level 1 Balboa

Wednesdays 8pm-9pm (practice 9-9:30pm)

Dates: July 22, 29, Aug. 5, 12, 19

Instructors: Irina & TBA

We will work on the foundation of Balboa and some classic moves! Balboa is a close embrace swing dance from Newport Beach in the 1940s, characterized by smooth shuffling footwork, kicks, and turns. This is a great elegant dance to know especially for those faster tunes! We also highly recommend more experienced dancers take this class as a way to brush up on your basics. Make sure to stick around for the 30 min practice session after class!

Quick FAQ

Classes begin the first Wednesday or Thursday of each month unless otherwise specified.

Sign-ups for next month’s classes open in the middle of the current month.

Nope! You don’t need to bring a partner—in fact, most of our students come solo.

During class, we highly encourage rotating partners because it helps you learn faster and adapt to different leads or follows.

If you do come with a partner and prefer to stay together the whole class, that’s totally fine—you’re welcome to opt out of rotation.

All Lindy Hop, Charleston, and Balboa lesson packages include 4 (or 8) classes, once a week, that build on material from the previous class.

Drop-ins are typically not allowed since each week builds on the last.

If you pay the full class rate, it includes a free dance pass for the month(except nights with live music).

We can catch you up! Just show up 15-20 minutes early before the next class and let us know!

Unused class credits do not count towards future months.
