Jo Hoffberg Weekend

Empowering your Lindy Hop

Jo Hoffberg dancing

July 25-26, 2026

She’s back and we couldn’t be more thrilled! Jo is a powerhouse, a masterful teacher, and an incredibly skilled and finessed dancer. She has been a constant inspiration in the worldwide community for most of the modern Lindy Hop history.

All classes, with the exception of the "Advanced" class, are open to intermediate to advanced+ dancers. However, newer dancers are more than welcome to join IF they are "brave beginners" who are willing to keep a student mindset and "stay curious" even if the material feels out of reach.

Additionally, there is an “Advanced” class on Sunday morning geared towards higher-level dancers that will be moving at a faster pace. This class is for you if you’ve been working on your dancing consistently for several years, feel comfortable dancing to a wide range of tempos, and approach every class as an active learner, not just a consumer. As a participant in this class, the expectation is that you will take most or all of the other classes during the weekend* as the concepts will build on each other.

There will be a combination of solo movement and partnered classes throughout the weekend. We highly encourage and recommend taking every class* (with the exception of Advanced unless you fit the description above), as they will all work towards empowering your Lindy Hop!

*If you are unable to attend all the classes you would like to due to financial harship, please reach out to us; we'd love to figure something out with you!

Location: Ballroom Utah, 3030 Main Street, Salt Lake City, UT 84115 (enter through the back)

Schedule

Saturday

10-12:30 pm

Class 1: Charleston

All things that kick! In this class, we'll start with the individual movement that makes Charleston rhythmical while looking good. Next, we’ll apply your understanding of those drills to partnered figures.

12:30-1:30 pm

Lunch Break

1:30-4:00 pm

Class 2: Trading Eights

This super fun class will take your partner connection to a new level through more open communication. Both Leaders and Followers will recalibrate how they're "listening" and "speaking" — and what it actually feels like when the conversation is working. We'll cover partner dynamics, frame, and musicality, with a structure that gets progressively more challenging as the class moves forward.

7:30-8:30 pm

Free All Levels Class

8:30-12 am

Social Dance!

Sunday

11-1:30 pm

Class 3: Solo Training

This class is all about you and the music. We'll work through the building blocks of jazz with a focus on how to bounce, build and play with ideas: isolations, rhythms, and accents that make your dancing feel like yours. Simple concepts, as challenging as you make them.

1:30-2:30 pm

Lunch Break

2:30-5 pm

Class 4: Masterful Phrasing and Creativity (Advanced)

Building on the previous class, we'll make sure everyone has a shared understanding of music basics — chorus’, phrases, riffs, dynamics — and then we'll get into the fun part: how to move masterfully between phrases embodying the music. This class moves between solo and partner work and will reflect back the magic you have brought to class.
